Green Card Extension for I-829 and I-751 filers
Have you recently filed your I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or your I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status?
If you have, you may know that the current processing times for each of these forms has increased to over a year.
Because of this extended waiting period, USCIS has decided to make these petitioners’ Permanent Resident Cards (aka Green Cards) valid for two full years beyond the card’s initial expiration date.
This 48 month extension took effect on January 11, 2023 for I-829 petitioners and on January 25, 2023 for I-751 petitioners.
For those whose cases are already pending, they will receive new receipt notices with the 48 month extension. Shown together with an expired green card, this new receipt notice indicating the 48 month extension will authorize you to work and travel within that extended time period.
This is good news for more petitioners who have been frustrated due to the long wait for processing. For many petitioners in the waiting line, the Biden Administration’s proposed reforms to improve processing efficiency have not yet shown results.
