Extension of Status for Conditional Lawful Permanent Residents
On September 4, 2021 USCIS issued a news release that they are extending the time period that receipt notices can be used to show evidence of status for conditional lawful permanent residents (“CLPRs”). USCIS extended the time CLPRs could use their receipt notices for Form I-751 or Form I-829 from 18 months to 24 months.
CLPRs who have properly filed either Form I-751 or Form I-829, and have a receipt notice can use that receipt notice for up to 24 months past the expiration of their Permanent Resident Card (or “greencard”). This receipt will count as evidence of status for the 24 months after the Permanent Resident Card has expired and the resident’s case is pending with USCIS.
This extension is one of the changes USCIS has implemented to accommodate the delayed processing times of cases due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
